Research on Postgraduates’ Mental Health Status

As the development of society,”physical Health”has no longer satisfied the people’s request. The definition of Health in people’s mind has not only involved the matter of physic Health but also the matter of mental health. However, since college expansion plan carried out, mental health problems on the group of postgraduates have been increasingly prominent. Various kinds of psychological barriers are springing up constantly. The mental health of graduates draws much wider attention. At present, A lot of researches have been currently exerted on the issue of mental health of postgraduates. The researches on mental health of postgraduates in “985project” universities are insufficient.The purpose of this study is to add datas about “985project” postgraduate in the research on the mental health of college students. To analyze the characteristics of mental health of the national key universities graduate student in a new age, summarize laws and provide advice for the mental health Education of Key university postgraduates.According to the principle of convenience sampling. the paper conducts a survey on224postgraduates in R University by adopting Self-made questionnaire, Rosenberg self-esteem scale, Trait Anxiety Inventory and General Well-Being Schedule, and adopting the statistical software SPSS19.0to analyze datas.The finding shows that postgraduates have higher level of mental health. The total average score of Self-esteem is31.87,among which the lowest score is20and the highest is40. Moreover, there are72.8%of the postgraduates whose score is above30;the total average score of trait anxiety is41.92, among which the average score of male is42.09, and the average score of female postgraduates is41.7, which almost has no prominent difference from national norm; The total average score of the sense of happiness is77.29;the score of male is76.31while the score of female is78.56.Furthermore, both male’s and female’s total sense of happiness are prominently higher than national norm. The total score of Self-esteem, trait anxiety,and the sense of happiness are bound up with each other.The mental health of postgraduates is influenced by many factors such as,study, life, work efficiency, family, etc. By studying, we concluded as follows:On the whole, the mental health of the postgraduate is at a high level. Mental health level manifestly shares a significant negative correlation with trait anxiety as well as positive correlation with happiness; the mental health level of the postgraduate student shows a trend of “V” development along with the growth in grade, second year students have the lowest level of mental health; features of master degree candidate with poor mental health status include:failure to obtain first-class scholarship, low learning efficiency, a bad relationship with postgraduate tutor, failed to find goup acceptance, being nervous when facing disease, not solid professional skills, poor performance in interview, lack of sense of belonging for family, less communication with the family, family relatives are in poor condition of health, the family is unable to offer help in field of career, worrying about family Economic conditions, unhappy memory in childhood.
